About Me-
Hello! This blog is intended to showcase various topics and interests that I spent my spare time researching and decided to illustrate through my writing.
A little about myself- I am a recent History BA (with Art and Heritage Studies) graduate from the University of Sussex and currently undertaking my Master's Degree in History of Design: Design and Material Culture at the Royal College of Art with the V&A Museum. Throughout my degree I have been specializing in Fashion History, particularly looking at identity and materiality.
During my time at Sussex I wrote for Fabrik, the university's fashion magazine, and decided to continue writing in my personal time. (articles 1 and 2 are taken from my work at Fabrik).
Fashion history has been a prominent feature throughout my studies and is the field that I intend to become a member of. Previously, before realizing that fashion history was the path I wanted to take, I was apart of various fashion design courses such as Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD) and the National Youth Theater (NYT) Costume backstage course.
Recently, my friends and I created an exhibition together as part of our studies at the Royal College of Art, titled Black Botanicals: The Root of 18th Century Caribbean Medicine. This exhibition was intended to bring a creative take on an overlooked narrative within History (particularly within History of Design), which was the use of botanicals within Caribbean medicine and the mistreatment of enslaved individuals, such as forced inoculation and abortions, but most importantly the colonial ties throughout.
Lastly, fellow classmates of mine and myself have created a magazine titled Old Home Zine, which is intended to bring an artistic take on heritage, whilst making heritage studies more accessible for young people. We're currently looking for submissions so go ahead and check us out!
All articles will have bibliographies of where I researched all the relevant information and all images sourced will be included in these lists.
